Expos are made up of 45-minute poster sessions organized around broad programming and/or particular audiences. Poster Sessions provide an opportunity for a small group of attendees to interact in an informal environment with a subject matter expert. Presenters illustrate their content by displaying graphs, photos, diagrams and a small amount of text on poster boards.

Alexander Agee II Alexander Agee II, Preferred Meals, an Elior Company

Alexander Agee II is an MBA in Business Management from Pepperdine University. He serves as Vice President of Business Development for Preferred Meals. He is responsible for developing nutrition service business solutions for large urban school districts, Charter Schools and local city government including local minority engagement. Fernando Aguilar Fernando Aguilar, Creative Arts Charter School

Fernando Aguilar earned a dual degree from Humboldt State University in both Spanish and History. He began teaching Spanish bilingual elementary education at Hawthorne Year Round in Oakland, CA. Fernando earned his teaching credential and Master’s of Arts in Teaching from University of San Francisco. He then moved to New York City to teach in East Harlem and East Brooklyn. After 8 years, Fernando returned to California to teach sixth grade at Creative Arts Charter School. Over the past nine years at CACS, he has worn many hats. He is now in his sixth year as Director of CACS.


Susan Aguilar Susan Aguilar, WeTip, Inc.

Ms. Aguilar is the WeTip Chief Executive Officer and has been with with WeTip for over 40 years. She has coordinated the management of hundreds of specialized programs and services. She has conducted more than 2,000 police training seminars. She holds an Associate Degree in Psychology, a B.A. in Business Admin. and a MBA. She serves on the advisory boards for the Employers Fraud Task Force, Crime Victims, and the Coalition Against Sexual Exploitation.


Tait Anderson Tait Anderson, ExED

Tait Anderson is an Executive Vice President at ExED. He oversees the business operations of charter schools in Los Angeles and leads ExED's process innovation initiatives. He has overseen the implementation of the online procure-to-pay solution ExED has implemented with its charter school clients. Prior to joining ExED, Mr. Anderson worked in higher education, consulting, and finance. Mr. Anderson earned an M.B.A. from the Anderson School at UCLA and a bachelor's degree in economics from Carleton College.


Susan Bedard Susan Bedard, CharterSAFE JPA

Ms. Bedard has over 30 years of experience in insurance and risk management specific to schools. As a CharterSAFE team member, she has worked exclusively with charter schools since 2011 and holds both the ARM-PE and CCP designations. Her background in public agency insurance, safety, and claims management brings first-hand knowledge of the operational issues that give rise to litigation.


Ana Chavez Ana Chavez, Value Schools

Ana J. Chavez is currently the Attendance Specialist and Accountability and Student Support Services Consultant for Value Schools. Over 17 years of experience working with historically under served neighborhoods and state defined subgroups, have gained her great insight on effective practices to increase enrollment, attendance, and build a positive school climate and strong student and parent engagement. Developing the potential of every child is supporting him/her to overcome every obstacle preventing him/her from attaining a fair and equitable education.


Katrina Conley Katrina Conley, KIPP LA Public Schools

Katrina Conley is the Director of Operations for KIPP LA Public Schools. Katrina was formerly the Director of Operations at Green Dot Public Schools. Prior to Green Dot, Katrina was a founding Director of Operations at a KIPP NYC elementary school, and she completed the Operations Fellowship at Uncommon Schools. She began her career as an investment banking analyst at Houlihan Lokey and worked as a private equity associate at PNC Mezzanine Capital. Katrina holds a B.S. in Commerce from the University of Virginia, a MBA from Harvard Business School and a M.Ed. from The Broad Residency in Urban Education.

Susan Diamanti Susan Diamanti, CharterSAFE

Susan has 20 years of experience in the field of California Workers’ Compensation. Susan has worked for Gallagher Bassett Services and Travelers Insurance Co. As a senior adjuster, she handled all aspects of claim management including investigation, litigated cases, and catastrophic losses. She now serves as the Workers’ Compensation Director for CharterSAFE, providing advisory and analytical assistance to member schools.


Stacy Emory Stacy Emory, San Carlos Charter Learning Center

Stacy Emory is the Executive Director of the San Carlos Charter Learning Center (California Charter #0001). She has been at the school since it opened its doors in August 1994. She has her degrees in Systematic Biology (emphasis in Botany) and was hired by CLC as a founding educator because they wanted “A scientist, not a science teacher”. She was in the classroom as seventh- and eighth-grade math and science teacher for 11 years before she moved into administration. Her first administrative position was Resource Choreographer, which was later expanded and renamed Director of Curriculum and Resources. Five years ago she assumed the helm as School Director.


Jeremy Kharrazi Jeremy Kharrazi, SchoolMint

Jeremy is part of the School Partnerships team at SchoolMint. He brings experience from both the classroom and the education technology worlds to his role. Prior to SchoolMint, Jeremy worked as a development representative for an EdTech organization and taught 3rd grade at the Rocketship Education network, located in San Jose, Ca. He holds a B.A. from Vanderbilt University.


Dena Koren Dena Koren, EdTec, Inc.

Dena brings a blend of education and private sector experience to her work at EdTec. Early in her career, Dena led teacher recruitment at BELL (Building Educated Leaders for Life), a national nonprofit afterschool and summer program for low-income students. Prior to EdTec, Dena worked as a strategy consultant with The Boston Consulting Group. In her current role, Dena works with a wide variety of charter schools, advising them on developing and managing their schools’ financials effectively and to achieve sustainability. Dena holds an MBA from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business and an AB from Princeton University.


Karla Ksan Karla Ksan, CharterSAFE (CCS-JPA)

With more than 25 years of Human Resources experience, Karla has a broad range of expertise in employee relations, compliance, benefit (health and retirement) administration, performance management, training and development, recruiting, compensation and payroll administration. Karla has a Master's Degree in Public Administration from the University of Southern California, and has SPHR, PHRca and SHRM-SCP designations from the Society for Human Resources Management and HR Certification Institute.


Sue Mandell Sue Mandell, WeTip, Inc.

Ms. Mandell specializes in creating programs specifically related to schools, insurance, corporate security, and municipalities. She has done more than 5,000 training presentations for WeTip nationwide and she has worked as the liaison to major law enforcement agencies, risk mangers and corporate security across America. Ms. Mandell has 25 years experience in training management trainees in safety procedures and risk management and she has served WeTip as their National Director for the past 13 years. Ms. Mandell Graduated from the University of Phoenix, receiving a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration and a Masters Degree in Business Organizational Management.


Kiyomi Meeker Kiyomi Meeker, California Department of Education

Kiyomi Meeker is an education programs consultant for the California Department of Education. She serves as project director for the California Public Charter School Grant Program. Previously, Kiyomi served as a public school teacher, instructional coach, and charter school leader.


Kymm Mutch Kymm Mutch, Pro-Team Food Service Advisors

Kymm is VP of Products and Services for PRO-Team Foodservice Advisors. She focuses on support and services for school LEAs and co-ops serving schools. Kymm brings school district management (Milwaukee Public Schools – School Nutrition Services Administrator) and urban school district management experience to the work of the firm. Kymm has worked extensively with school food procurement, commodity management, and “clean label” supply chain management. Kymm provides consultant supervision, training and technical assistance for all aspects of program operations.


Heather Ogren Heather Ogren, Edlio

Carolyn Pfister Carolyn Pfister, State Board of Education

Carolyn Pfister is an education administrator for the State Board of Education. She supports the State Board Members with charter school issues, appeals and renewals. Previously Carolyn was the executive director of a K-8 charter school and charter school governing board member.


Vivienne Pustell Vivienne Pustell, Summit Public Schools

Vivienne Pustell is Director of Digital Safety at Summit, having joined in January of this year. Before Summit, she was a high school English teacher in Oakland, coached student teachers from the Mills Graduate School of Education, and ran digital learning initiatives at Edmodo. She has spoken about digital literacy and citizenship at several information security conferences and at the Mozilla Privacy Labs, and is very happy to be back to talking about these things with the primary stakeholders--educators and parents!


Marco Rafanelli Marco Rafanelli, BuyQ

Marco Rafanelli has been serving charter schools for over ten years, first as the Director of Member Business Services with the Colorado League of Charter Schools and now as the Co-founder and CEO of BuyQ. BuyQ is the nation’s only group purchasing organization devoted specifically to charter schools. By leveraging the combined purchasing power of over 2,500 charter schools, BuyQ delivers significant savings and other benefits unavailable to schools buying on their own. Marco received his undergraduate degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder and his MBA from the University of Denver.


Joanna San Diego Joanna San Diego, Arthur J. Gallagher

Joanna San Diego is a Benefits Consultant at Gallagher Benefits Services Northern California. As an expert in Health and Welfare benefits, she has assisted numerous clients in both the public and private sector with benefits design, and benchmarking analysis. Ms. San Diego has worked with a considerable number of large-group and public-entity clients, and has over 22 years of health and welfare consulting and client management experience. Prior to joining Gallagher, Ms. San Diego served as a Sales Leader for the Kaiser Permanente Large Group Account Management Team. Ms. San Diego holds a BA Degree in Marketing from Florida State University.


Meredith Sommers Meredith Sommers, Franklin Covey

Meredith Sommers is a client partner for Franklin Covey's The Leader In Me in Southern California. She is a business consultant, inspirational writer, dynamic speaker and a serial entrepreneur that has successfully built and sold several businesses in Los Angeles. She has created and grown numerous brands from the ground up and has hired and managed up to 45 staff in her career. She went to college at the University of Southern California then got her MBA at Pepperdine University. She is now dedicating her time to help educators understand how to unleash the leadership potential in all children.


Carly Weston Carly Weston, CharterSAFE (CCS-JPA)

Carly Weston is the Risk and Claims Manager for California Charter Schools Joint Powers Authority (CharterSAFE). She helps schools mitigate risk by advising and training risk transfer techniques, identifying exposures, developing waiver forms and policy templates, providing guidance for field trips, special events, vendor relationships, and much more. Carly has a Bachelor of Science degree from Illinois Institute of Technology and a Master of Public Administration degree with an emphasis in Public Sector Leadership and Management.


Bryant Wong Bryant Wong, Summit Public Schools

Bryant Wong is the Chief Technology Officer at Summit Public School, has over 19 years of technology experience. He currently leads the technology and security functions at Summit focused heavily on a designing and sharing Summit's approach to data security for K-12. Prior before Bryant entered the education industry, he worked for various competitive telecommunications startups building fiber optic backbones for metro area networks. He also holds a Bachelor's from Golden Gate University and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of San Francisco. Bryant also serves as a board member for the K-12 National Advisory Council on Cybersecurity.


The 25th annual conference will be held March 26–28, 2018 in San Diego, CA at the San Diego Convention Center.
